It started like any regular day, which seems strange now. Something should have been different; something in the air, in the way I felt when I woke up. Surely a man should feel something unusual on the day he is about to die?
From a sheltered life of a traditional British boarding school in Rhodesia to the psychedelic streets of London in the early Seventies, Basil O’Connell-Jones led a reckless life and pushed all the limits in search of a cause.
The search eventually led him to the Rhodesian Light Infantry where he became a soldier.
Basil had always assumed that death was the end. When a man died, it was all over. He was just a heap of flesh and bones with the breath gone from him.
But when Basil found himself face down in the dirt waiting to see if he would bleed to death before he was blown up by an air strike overhead, he discovered it was not like that at all. In one moment, his life would be radically transformed forever. He would experience the power of amazing grace.
